Using the Lake Arrowhead Cameras

The four cameras at the top of this page are live streams, not still images. The Lake Arrowhead Entrance camera looks at the road into the village entrance, which is the quickest way to judge whether snow is falling, or being removed, or not a problem. This is one of the first places in town that gets plowed. Lake Arrowhead Village 2 and the Waterfront camera show the village and the shoreline, where you can see walkability on the perimeter of the village, facing East. The Running Springs camera sits further east along Highway 18 and often shows a storm arriving before it reaches the lake. These roads are plowed later, typically.

Below the cameras, the weather panel gives current conditions at lake level and a five-day outlook, and the Next 6 Hours timeline breaks the near-term forecast into ten-minute steps so you can tell the difference between a passing shower and a storm settling in. When precipitation is expected, the live radar loads automatically and shows rain and snow moving across the San Bernardino Mountains.

Further down, the Caltrans panel reports open or restricted status for the three highways that serve the area, and the traffic cameras show the approach routes from the valley. In winter, those two together are usually what decides whether the drive is worth making today.
